SHIMBA HILLS LODGE| RESTAURANT AND FOOD REVIEW

After a 5km hike there and back from Sheldrick Falls, some of us were in dire need of some food. We were awakended and refreshed by the waterfalls, and most of us were ready to eat. Our short safari trip included a three course meal at Shimba Hills restaurant. We were seated upstairs overlooking the most picturesque views. We looked through the menu and selected our choices of starters, main course and dessert.

For starters, I ordered the bruschetta with a side salad. When the starter came, I was a tad bit disappointed. It was not what I expected at all. The toast was not even toasted on the other side, and everyone knows bruschetta is supposed to be crunchy. It also included an egg! Don’t ask me why! And… some pasta salad. I mean the thought and gesture was nice, but all I wanted was some ordinary bruschetta! Nevertheless, it was a starter.

Finger Lickin’ Good or Too Good To Be True?

Mum ordered soup. She didn’t know what soup, as the menu simply said soup! But it was actually VERY tasty, and was one of the best dishes on the menu. (I think it may have been butternut squash) although she insisted she could taste Chicken.

Eventually we found out it was a chicken and vegetable soup, and it was delicious. I waited for my main course to arrive and had decided to go with something easy. I went for the  steak and chips, I thought I’d keep it plain and simple.

Safe? Yes. Delicious? So-so.

The food was o.k, I mean not the best I’ve ever had, but it was edible. The chilli sauce worked very well with the dish, as my steak was unseasoned. For dessert, we were all offered a basic fruit salad kebab. The fruit salad skewers didn’t look too appetising especially as they had chunks of banana on them, but we were grateful. Drinks were charged separately but the sodas were as much as £2 for each bottle! (thereabouts). Hot drinks were much cheaper, and pretty good too.

The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and relaxing, and we experienced a decent meal while watching the perfect view. All in all, the trip was definitely worth it, especially as the meals were included, but I’d definitely recommend the soup for your starter!
