Best Things To Do In Nairobi | (SOME FREE!)

So, we spent a cheeky 2 nights in Nairobi, before we headed back home to London. Our Kenya Airways flight was delayed an hour or so and we arrived in Nairobi late afternoon. We were slightly limited for time and money was running low, but mostly we had one FULL day to explore. We did as much as we could in 2 days. So, here are my top 10 fun things to do in Nairobi

Top 10 Things To do in Nairobi

  1. Visit the Kenyatta International Convention centre. The perfect place to take the best photos, visit the water fountain display and learn about some historical figures. We were on a budget, so instead of exploring inside, we stayed outside to take our photos.
  1. Visit the Maasai Market. Here we spent a while looking for trinkets and souvenirs we could take back to London to give to our friends and family, but be sure to negotiate as the prices can soar. (especially if they realise you’re a tourist!)
  2. Have brunch or Dinner at CJ’S – now this wasn’t meant to be on my list, but Brunch was so good and the atmosphere was so lit, i just have to recommend it. You can’t visit Nairobi and not stop for a bit of brunch at C.J’S – that’s the place to be!

4) The Visit the Garden Mall shopping centre for a bit of retail therapy. This place is huge and you could pick up anything from household products, to dinner!

5) Visit Nairobi National Park for your safari. We didn’t visit, simply because we had already done our safari whilst we were staying in Mombasa, so depending on how much time you have- make it make sense! Otherwise, you could easily do this in a day if you are staying in Nairobi for at least 2 days.

6) Get an Uber and tour the city. Just to get a sense of what the city is like. You’ll pass a number of cafes, shops, malls and so much more. You even see a variety of street vendors!

7) Westgate shopping Mall is another place you could visit, they have many restaurants and places to eat, of course a huge selection of clothes stores to soothe your retail habits!

8) Go Hiking! Kenya is known for the most breathtaking and magical mountains, so why not go for an early hike. You can even visit the Kanura Forest, which is a beautiful nature reserve. If you do go hiking, be sure to get a guide for safety.

9) If you’ve got kids, why not take the children to Uhuru park. Uhuru park is one of the most popular parks for chilling out in Nairobi. You can even enjoy a picnic while watching the birds (and everyone knows I always bring snacks where I go!) … and best of all it’s FREE! It’s a nice place to chill, very calm unlike the bustling city!

10) If you are not afraid of snakes, why not visit the snake park. I am not particularly keen on snakes, so I opted not to visit. But the snake park is in the grounds of the National museum, and I’m pretty sure it’s something those daring kids will enjoy! But if you’re willing to splash the cash, why not visit the Elephant Orphanage at Sheldrick Trust to ultimately complete your visit!
