Spending The Weekend In Hampshire? Here’s The Perfect 3-Day Itinerary!
If you’ve thought about spending the weekend in Hampshire, then make sure you don’t forget to hit all the best spots! See below for your perfect 3- day itinerary!
DAY 1:
Start your morning at The Cornish Bakery.
Noted as one of the best bakeries in town! Prices do vary so find the right pastry and coffee that suits your budget!

After breakfast, take a stroll through the city centre. Here, you’ll find a plethora of high street shops, as well as a lively outdoor market. Head to the Winchester museum for some souvenirs, and information that will teach you all about the once capitals history.
Right next to the Cathedral, you’ll find the ruins of Wolvesley castle, a great place to visit especially if you’re bringing the kids along.
Burn off some of the calories with the perfect hill climb stroll. If you’ve got sturdy legs for hiking, try St Catherine’s Hill, otherwise if you want something quicker and you’re leaving from the city centre, try St Giles Hill. Be sure to click here for more accessible trails everyone can explore!

Don’t forget to explore the village of Chawton, (roughly 16 miles away,) to visit the Iconic Jane Austen’s house.
Late Lunch: Ensure you don’t miss the perfect spot for some late afternoon, traditional English tea and scones at Cassandra’s Cup. (Directly opposite Jane Austen’s House)
Wind down and head back to Winchester for dinner, for my favourite cuisine (Lebanese) at Lebanese House, then head to your hotel for some well deserved rest!
DAY 2:
Stop at Kneaded, the bakery that offers some of the most delicious, hot chocolate and sandwiches for a quick bite. After breakfast, take a bus from Winchester City Centre to Alresford and visit the beautiful Georgian town with pastelled- coloured houses.
What is Alresford Famous For?
Alresford is also known for its village market that takes place weekly. If you want to experience the market, you’ll have to head to Winchester a day earlier as the markets take place on a Thursday, (From 8 am-1pm).
If the market is not on your radar, don’t worry, there’s still plenty alternatives.
Lunch: Have lunch at Josie’s,
Walk along the River Itchen river bank for some sweet reflection time, before finishing your day on the famous, epic ride on the Watercress Line!
If ‘Pub Grub’ is more your thing, maybe try The Globe for dinner.

Is Alresford Worth The Visit?
I would say Alresford is worth the visit, as some consider it one of the best ways to take a step back in time and explore Hampshire. Just look at some of the gorgeous, colourful houses below!

DAY 3:
Start the day from Winchester Station with a train journey down to Southampton, for some retail therapy at West Quay.

From Wacky Kingdom, (an indoor play area) to Bowling – WestQuay offers a variety of entertainment the whole family can enjoy!
A Spot Of Lunch!
And after all that shopping and walking around, you’ll want to find the perfect place to eat. Well, no need to look any further.

There’s everything from Curry to Pizza available. Don’t worry – if the kids don’t want to try somewhere new, there’s always Nando’s or McDonald’s!

And if The Wolvesley Ruins was not your thing, why not visit God’s House Tower while you’re in Southampton instead!
Head back to Winchester for some well deserved rest, and stop for dinner at Giggling Squid.
When you visit Winchester, let me know in the comments how you get on!
